On June 1, 2010 our two year old, "Little Air Bear," was diagnosed with Childhood Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) Type M7. After enduring 146 days at Primary Children's Hospital, Erin is now in remission and living a full life at home with our family. Her strong will and constant happy smile is an inspiration to us all. Through our difficult circumstances we found great strength and peace in our Savior, Jesus Christ. Thank you for checking in on us.

Acute Myeloid Leukemia: How are we doing?

Erin is really a trooper. She is so kind and loving even though she is in a lot of pain today from the surgery to insert a tube into her heart (a Broviac central line), a spinal tap and the bone marrow biopsy. The doctors and nurses love how sweet she is. After they poke her, or take her temperature, or change her diaper, or give her medication, or give her food, or give her an ultrasound, or draw blood, or do anything, SHE SAYS "THANK YOU!" She is a good example to all of us on how kind we can still be, even when we are feeling rotten.

John and I go through phases. Sometimes we are sobbing, sometimes we are laughing. This is a rollercoaster we haven't ridden before. There will be ups and downs. One thing for certain though, is that we feel the comfort from the Spirit. We are not angry. We are not asking "why us?" We know that our Heavenly Father is mindful of us and our Little Air Bear (her nickname).

I'm so grateful that Erin is in the best hands and will be given the more amazing care. There are amazing resources down there and so many "helps". Just ask. I'm so grateful that you have family so near to jump in and help with your other children. If you need anything or if we can help anyway. Please, PLEASE let us know.

  12. Thanks for setting up the blog.

I know exactly how you feel regarding not feeling angry and rising up to the task at hand, regarding cancer. Reading these entries brings back a flood of memories for me...the surgeries, the tube insertions, the chemo, the team of people all working together to achieve a common goal. It brings emotions to the surface for me.

My treatment was six months, and though it looked like an eternity at the beginning, and had very tough times throughout, at the end, looking back was a sweet experience, much to be treasured. Cherish the next six months.

Okay, now my eyes are tearing up...
